eCaMIS
UHS uses an Electronic Clinical and Management Information System, known as eCaMIS, to manage the patient's administrative details. Essentially, when a patient arrives at the hospital eCaMIS keeps a record of the patient in Outpatient and Inpatient, Waiting List and Theatre activity.
CHARTS
CHARTS provides clinicians with worklists of current inpatients and scheduled outpatients to allow effective management of patients and quick access to the relevant information.
eDMS
Paperless healthcare is the cornerstone of the UHS digital strategy, the NHS long term plan and NHS X.
Share xrays digitally using XDS and XCA
If a patient moves for treatment from one NHS trust to another it is often difficult for clinicians to see the patient's reports or images from the previous trust, such the x-rays, tests and results, because these reports are not currently shared digitally across all of the NHS.
Blood tests using Sample 360
How do we take blood tests?
University Hospital Southampton (UHS) is one of the largest major trauma centres in the UK and very year the Trust takes over 1.2 million blood tests. UHS use Sample 360, an electronic, digital blood sample system used on an iPod.
SafeTrack
A digital healthcare app, SafeTrack, is in use at UHS which stores all patient observations, NEWS2 scores and fluid balance. Healthcare staff enter this information into SafeTrack. Clinicians can then see the patient information on mobile devices.
Digital Letters
We are currently in the pilot phase of a digital letters project. This is a secure & easy to use digital system where you can confirm, rebook or cancel your hospital appointment online.

Medxnote
University Hospital Southampton has implemented a Trust-wide instant messaging system called Medxnote.
Electronic Drug Cabinets
Medicines and pharmacy drugs are currently stored on the wards in a cupboard or area specifically for the medicine. This is a purely manual process can therefore prone to human error.
digiRounds
The birth of DigiRounds
digiRounds allows clinical teams to see the patient information they need during the ward round, in a format that is concise and quick to use using a hand held mobile device.
Closed-Loop Drug Administration
Clinical staff require electronic resources to help them positively identify the patient they are treating and the drugs they are administering to them. This will help cut down adverse event reports on drug administration and increase patient safety.
Electronic Whiteboards
UHS’ Technical Solutions Team designed electronic whiteboards to replace the handwritten boards used on the wards. The ewhiteboards display information taken directly from a patient’s electronic record. They show the patient's care symbols, length of admission and estimated discharge date.
